Unfortunately, wheelchair access is limited in the museum buildings due to steps and narrow passageways. Yes. Access to museum objects is by prior arrangement. They can be examined in the museum’s classroom. Museum objects may not be removed from the research area or taken outside the museum building.

Yes. Visitors may make sketches and order digital copies of museum objects. Digital copies and photographs are produced by the museum, and fees are charged according to the museum’s current price list and terms of use.
Can museum materials be used in publications or for other public purposes?

The Viljandi County Folk Costume Advisory Centre operates at Viljandi Museum and provides information about the historical folk costumes of Viljandi County. It offers advice to anyone wishing to make, complete or correctly wear traditional folk costumes. Advice is available on complete costumes as well as individual garments, materials, techniques and traditional ways of wearing them.
Which regions does the advisory centre cover?
The centre provides information on the folk costumes of the historic parishes of Halliste, Helme, Karksi, Kolga-Jaani, Kõpu, Paistu, Pilistvere, Põltsamaa, Suure-Jaani, Tarvastu and Viljandi.
Who provides the advice?
The advisers are Tiina Jürgen, Inna Raud and Sandra Urvak, specialists in the research and making of traditional folk costumes. Consultations may also draw on Viljandi Museum’s ethnographic literature, educational materials and, where necessary, objects and photographs from the museum’s ethnographic collection.
When can I visit the advisory centre?
The advisory centre is open for in-person consultations on the last Saturday of every month from 11:00 to 15:00. At other times, consultations are available by prior arrangement. Advice can also be requested by email.
