Mission: We tell and interpret the stories of Viljandi County, while safeguarding its local heritage and identity.
Viljandi Museum is located in the historic former pharmacy building and invites visitors to discover the history of Viljandi County from prehistoric times to the 20th century. The permanent exhibition, spread over two floors, presents the region’s past through archaeological finds, historical objects and stories.
The Mart Saar House Museum in Hüpassaare takes you to a place where Estonian music history meets the tranquillity of Soomaa. It was the creative home of composer Mart Saar (1882–1963), and it was here, surrounded by forests and bogs, that much of his music was created.
Viljandi Museum collects and preserves the past, but the museum also comes to life again and again in the present – through exhibitions, encounters and new stories.
Raamat annab ülevaate Viljandi linna ja kihelkonna kalmistutest.
Muuseumi toimetiste sarja üheksas väljaanne on pühendatud 150 aasta möödumisele Jaan Rieti sünnist.
Käesolev monograafia annab põhjaliku ja pildirohke ülevaate Viljandimaa vabadussamba rajamisest, purustamisest ning aastakümneid kestnud taassünnist.
Enam kui 300 fotoga raamat on järjeks aasta varem ilmunud kronoloogilise ülevaate esimesele osale.
Raamat jaotub ajalooliste kihelkondade põhjal neljaks peatükiks. Neis on antud esemete kaupa ülevaade iga piirkonna naise ja mehe rõivastest.
